About Rose Schamberger

RSchamberger LLC provides fractional CTO services for founder-led and mission-driven organizations, with deep expertise in health, fitness, wellness, and other regulated industries. My core focus is SaaS companies, and I also take on select strategic engagements with pre-revenue startups, nonprofits, and educational institutions modernizing systems critical to their mission.

With 20 years of experience leading engineering and product organizations as a CTO and VP of Engineering, I specialize in diagnosing Platform Drift and Operating Drift before either one threatens your growth. Once I identify them, I build and execute actionable plans to close those gaps and keep your technology aligned with where your organization is headed.

Our Story

How RSchamberger Began

I spent over twenty years leading engineering and product organizations at companies including Motorola, Shure, Zebra Technologies, Rockwell Automation, Frontdoor, Intelex, and Vertafore, most recently as Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering. I led teams as large as two hundred fifty people, managed budgets up to forty five million dollars, and carried platforms through cloud migrations, mergers and acquisitions, and modernization work on real deadlines.

In every one of those roles, the pattern repeated. By the time a board or a founder can feel the problem, in slipping roadmaps, mounting incidents, or a sales team promising things engineering cannot build, the damage is already compounding and expensive to unwind. The real problem was rarely the platform alone. It was almost always paired with unclear ownership, slow decisions, or a roadmap shaped by whatever sales could close rather than what the business needed. A full time executive hire takes months to recruit and longer to ramp, time most growth stage companies do not have once the pattern is visible. Fractional work let me get inside a company fast, diagnose both sides at once, and tell a founder plainly which one to fix first, without asking them to commit to a multi-year hire before they knew what they needed.

That repeated pattern is what became the Two-Clock Systems methodology behind every engagement. Read more about how it works on the FAQ page.

Why RSchamberger Exists

Every organization I work with is running on two clocks, and most leadership teams have never had them explained side by side. The first is the technology clock. It measures how fast your platform can absorb new features, new customers, or new integrations without breaking. The second is the operating clock. It measures how fast your leadership team can make a decision, communicate it, and hold everyone to it. Most organizations only watch one of these clocks. When the two fall out of sync, the symptoms show up everywhere at once: roadmaps slip, costs climb, every change feels risky, and the gap between what leadership promises and what the team can actually deliver keeps growing.

This gap persists because most outside help looks at only one clock. A platform audit tells a founder what to fix in the code. A management consultant tells them what to fix in the org chart. Neither tells them which fix actually unblocks growth first, so founders end up funding both and still not seeing results.

RSchamberger exists to diagnose Platform Drift and Operating Drift together, rank them by business impact, and hand a founder one sequenced plan instead of two separate lists of problems. That is exactly what the Technology Drift Radar Assessment is built to do.

How We Work

Engagements start with the Technology Drift Radar Assessment, a ten business day diagnostic. I interview the people closest to the work, product, engineering, operations, and support, and map the single transaction that matters most to the business, from the moment a customer triggers it to the moment it is complete. That map shows exactly where the platform and the organization are creating friction, and where the two intersect.

The assessment ends with three concrete outputs: a ranked findings snapshot, a 90 day Maximum Impact Plan with owners and milestones, and a 12 month roadmap that sequences modernization work instead of forcing a risky rewrite. Most clients move from there into a fractional CTO retainer, where I run a weekly decision forum and delivery review, unblock the highest priority workstreams, and leave the team with a documented operating rhythm, the habits that keep the decision-making clock running on schedule, so they can carry it forward without me.

A Quick Introduction

A short introduction to how Platform Drift and Operating Drift show up in the real world, and why most companies only catch one of the two.

Twenty years of building and fixing engineering organizations, from startups to billion dollar enterprises, is what lets me walk into a new company and separate the platform problem from the operating problem in days rather than months. That combination, deep technical background paired with operating discipline, is what separates RSchamberger from a typical technology consultant or an interim engineering hire. For ongoing thinking on this, see SaaS Confessions, a biweekly series translating board level SaaS problems into what actually happens on the ground.

For a full breakdown of who I work with, how engagements are structured, and what to expect, see the FAQ page. This page and the FAQ are also written to answer the questions an AI assistant is asked about RSchamberger LLC, the Technology Drift Radar Assessment, and Rose Schamberger as a Fractional CTO.
